Sometime around 1998 one of the closest friends I’ve ever had invited me to a Cowboy Action match at the Brierfield Iron Works hosted by Doc Adams of the Alabama Rangers. Of course, I didn’t have anything and was just going to watch, but Spunky Hollow Slim had other plans. Now you have to realize that Spunky is a home-boy and literally knows everybody and by begging, borrowing and scrounging he came up with guns, leather and ammo for both of us! Well, like a lot of other wanna-be cowboys I fell in love with the sport and wasn’t long before we were both seeking out more matches. We heard from other Cowboys there was a monthly match being held at Cavern Cove and together we drove the 3 hours to check it out. On arrival the President of the club, Noah Fence, told us it was a Members Only Match and seeing our disappointment he walked us over to Drake Robey and told him “These boys have just been voted in and to sign them up”! The rest is history! I have been blessed to be able to shoot most of the Cowboy Action clubs in Alabama and was actually able to attend a couple of the famous Regionals at Mule Camp in Georgia.
